A Death in Our Goldwing Community

#1

Post by franchise2k »

Darrell Spencer was my riding buddy in Phoenix. He goes by Desert Refugee on this site (and many others) Unfortunately, Darrell lost his battle with cancer in July. It has been about a year since his diagnosis. Darrell was an engineer and provided many technical responses here and was always willing to help anyone. He found the rare traveling fuel tanks for me that I was lucky to buy. He was my road partner and we spent many 1000s of miles in northern AZ riding and camping. I will miss you so much buddy! Many of you will not know him with the countless members on this site, but to those that did know him, I thought it only right that his passing was included in this forum. R.I.P. my brother. See you on the other side.

He was a true friend. He made many trips from the opposite side of Phoenix to help me with whatever project I had going. He is sorely missed as someone I could just pick up the phone and call. He was smart, inventive, and he knew real bikers ride in any weather! I'm reminded of a question once asked of us by a stranger filling our tanks on a rainy day ride: "What do you do when it rains?" Reply: "Ride."

Thanks for the comments

I lost a good friend, and riding buddy several years ago. Once, while riding in the Smoky Mt's caught in a suprise snow storm, stopped at a country store, we were asked, "are you going to ride in this?" My buddy replyed... "can't put it in my pocket". I often think of him when I'm caught in bad weather.
