I've done a search and spent about 40 minutes working through threads to attempt a clear answer, which I think is "no." Before I throw in the towel, I'm posting the query here:
I have an '80 rear Comstar with the same diameter as my '79 Comstar on the "Wing and a Prayer" build. It'd be nice if I could us that wheel on the '79 because I'm using an '82 Comstar on the front (black/anodized) and could get a design/color match.
Casual glance suggests that the rear brake caliper mount (running through axle bolt might be similar. Reading seems to indicate a need to swap final drive to a GL1100. And reading may indicate that I'll have problems lining it all up and centering.
I'm not looking for lots of work to make it fit. Thoughts?

I do not "think" it will work but I do not know for certain. If you really want to go that way you can do the 1100 swingarm swap. That has been done and is documented here: https://ngwclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php ... 28#p453011

Re: 80/81 Rear Comstar on '79?
I figured. I'm not up for the swingarm swap, at least not on this build. Maybe after I retire and have time to get myself in some real trouble. But that's a decade away, probably longer.
Really, I happened to walk by my '80 and notice the tire was the same size as the one on the '79. Down a rabbit hole at NGW I went. I need to keep my eye on the horizon of this build if I'm going to put her on the road by May. Detours will delay what little progress I'm making.

Re: 80/81 Rear Comstar on '79?
Pretty sure a wheel made for an 1100 will not go onto a 1000 FD unit. An 1100 FD will not fit a 1000 swingarm.
Having done the 1100/1000 swingarm swap, it's a PITA. In addition to the special parts you need to have machined, the shocks will be too short because the lower end sits back farther.
