175 Project

#1

Post by luludog »

Started this a while back. Finally getting back to it. The frame is a ‘71 CB175. Was looking to take some queues from the Honda 50 Dream, and some other vintage bikes.

Is that a Cappellini oil cooler/filter system? I used a few of their different parts on my CL77 build last year.

The bike looks excellent with good attention to detail on the build.
Current Bikes:
DISPLAY MODELS:
1966 CL77 - Honda 305cc - Dual purpose - "Gentleman's Scrambler" was a period moniker.
1967 CL175K0 - Low production number with #802 engine serial- winter 2019/2020 full restoration.
1972 CB350F - Baby Four with low mileage - Cosmetic refresh to the next level 2021/2022.
RIDERS AND FUN TOYS:
1978 CB550K - Very original bike with only 7499 Km. from new - light cleanup and refresh done.
1983 CB1100F - Canadian model - DOHC Supersport in pristine low kilometre condition from new.
1984 CX650E - Restored summer 2017 - a rare Eurosport model - excellent one owner bike.

Thanks. Yes, the oil filter/cooler is from Cappellini.

Thanks

Got two milestones in front of me; fab an exhaust, and finish up the tank.
Bodywork & paint really isn’t my thing, and the aftermarket tank is proving to be quite the challenge.
Bought some aftermarket exhaust pipes and automotive megaphones. The down pipes are way off on the #1 cylinder. Will need to heat and bend. The megaphones are too big, both in length and diameter.
More on this later. Thanks for your interest & comments.

Photo of what I’m thinking for the exhaust. Keep in mind the length
F0B62F28-A9B0-4A06-A66A-EE77969A5AFE.jpeg
will be about 6” shorter and somehow reduce the diameter down to 2 1/2” at the end.

Mentioned the Honda Dream 50. It was a JDM model. Depending on year; had a red or black frame. The exhaust is what I’m hoping to mimic, only angled up at the rear

Brief update. Still need to seal & paint the tank, but got it on to double check fitment. Seat is in position, rear fender with tail light, exhaust needs to be finished up. Also need to finish wiring.

Very nice work! I am certain with your meticulous work, that there is a reason for the “dent” in the right pipe?

Thanks. There’s actually two dents. The inside one clears the frame. The outer one you noticed is clearance for the kick starter. The bike doesn’t have a starter. In its place is a custom oil cooler/filter.
