Re: Anyone here running an EV?
Not quite yet, our next new car will be an EV. No plans on an EV motorcycle.

Re: Anyone here running an EV?
I've been prodding my youngest son (in a mechanical engineering program now) a bit to see if I could interest him and a couple college buddies in building an electric motorcycle.
We've talked about it a few times, mostly noodling while on long drives. I've offered to ante up some $ and help source a donor rolling chassis, thinking that a materials budget and their general "engineering" can-figure-it-out attitudes might yield something ridable and fun. And it would be a learning experience for him and his crew.
Nothing yet.
I don't know that EV is the future - though it's definitely part of it.
I read recently that Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, and Kawasaki have teamed up to divvy up a range of engineering challenges involved in building smaller hydrogen-powered vehicles. Link: https://www.greencarcongress.com/2023/0 ... -hyse.html

Not in these mountains. The technology may be good for flat lands, but still not there for constant elevation changes. But please, buy Tesla (I have stock)!

Re: Anyone here running an EV?
Not in my plans on any level.
Power is still coal fired here in Ohio, electric is all coal....so no real gain for anyone.
Battery's are still way off, there are first gen Tesla's getting parked because battery replacement is more than the book on the car. Too short a life span for me, Youngest in my driveway is north of 170K with just oil changes and a brake pad now and then,
Oh, and mine sound cool....

Re: Anyone here running an EV?
Not yet … have some interest in electric bicycles, but just at a 'curious' stage … they are a big presence in Toronto where we have an extensive bicycle infrastructure. Many delivery services use them. They pose quite a challenge to pedestrians as they zip around ignoring traffic rules at 40 kph (25 mph) in an effort to make more money … most are paid on a per package basis.
I’m also not sure our electrical infrastructure can handle the increased demand that widely used electric cars would produce. Perhaps big trucks and buses offer the best opportunity ?

Re: Anyone here running an EV?
EVs do not save the planet. Have noticed EVs are promoted as "zero" emissions, and while true, should add "but not Carbon neutral". The carbon footprint over the life of an EV far exceeds that of an ICE vehicle. Electric infrastructure in Canada will never in my life time be adequate to support this phenomenon - electric projects to support this needed to be started in the '90s, takes this long to get one on line - too many roadblocks for major capital projects in Canada. Road infrastructure is another issue, EVs are not paying road tax, governments will start taxing EVs in some form to recoup these dollars, then watch and listen to the EV owners start to complain.
Incentives for electric bikes is the new fad. If you want an e-bike, buy one, shouldn't expect Joe public to subsidize your buying one. Lots of money being spent on bike infrastructure, but have yet to see a family go to the hockey rink on one.
Great vehicle for around town if you are so inclined, but too restrictive for commuting, touring and such. Els could very well kill a lot of tourism in a country.
E-bikes and an EV are not on my bucket list.

Re: Anyone here running an EV?
Keep in mind that Nuke plants for electricity make an EV carbon neutral in operation. Nuke plants of the past have scared most off the tech, but today's Nuke plants including learning's from Japans event are now safe and efficient. Today's politicians are not ready yet.

Re: Anyone here running an EV?
Agree. Maybe spend more dollars on developing ways to utilize the fuel from a nuke plant. May not be enough oomph to power a reactor, but sufficient for other technologies.
The Japan disaster is interesting in that there are four grids with the east/west operating at 50 HZ, the other at 60 HZ. Not enough infrastructure to assist either of the grids.
From the Wiki: "The electrical grid in Japan is isolated, with no international connections, and consists of four wide area synchronous grids. Unusually the Eastern and Western grids run at different frequencies (50 and 60 Hz respectively) and are connected by HVDC connections. This considerably limits the amount of electricity that can be transmitted between the north and south of the country."
Was one of the reasons for the meltdown.
