and then there is the boat

About 15 years ago I got a "free boat" from my dad.... well I say free

on the way back from arizona I notice my gas milage went down, when I pared it in Oklahoma, I noticed the right wheel tilting. not only the bearings were gone, but the race wore a grove in the spindle.

of course the carbs had to be worked on to get in to run

etc. etc....
last weekend, off to the lake. Launch the boat, lower the motor... and NOTHING NADA! change out all the battery connects NOTHING NADA. You cannot trailer a boat like this with the engine down.

finally up to my waste in the lake, (and a dive after one wrench decided to slip through a drain hole--actually several dives). I get the back panel off. My truck up to the front axles, jumper cables to the battery (oh yeah one ground grip comes off so I have bear wire). I can get enough power to raise the engine.

The batteries are both good. I think I have a bad ground.

Had a 30 foot Uniflite in the 1000 Islands back in the early 2000s, twin 318 inboards, flying bridge. Great boat, same hull form as the ones used for river cruising during the Vietnam war:

The picture was one weekend in the 1000 Islands and my Daughter was playing the bag pipes on the bow at sunset. Small boats came from nowhere to listen. Played every evening for the long weekend.

Lived on a 40 foot Bayliner Bodega from 2007 to 2012 in Victoria Harbour:

Lots of living space.

One of my cousins has been building a 75' schooner in his front yard for the last 13 years. His wife has a blog of the progress.
Every piece of wood in the vessel started out as a log in his yard.

Being on the sea runs in our blood. My great grand father and grand father were lobster fishermen.

Being a land person (PC or what) from Ontario did not know we had a Navy until I joined in 1973. First trip out and it was an eye opener. Being on the ocean is similar to driving through the Rockies. The ocean and mountains are humbling for anyone. These are inviting and calming at the same time. Being in the middle of the Pacific at sundown on the quarter deck reading a novel in good weather is a great place to be.
