In Praise of Older Wings

Post by Mike-C »

Gents;
I took my Wing out for a nice ride yesterday. And although I have been riding my ST1300 for most of the past two years I must admit the Wing is a nicer ride. The faster it goes, the smoother it gets. Not as sophisticated as the ST but a nicer ride. For long trips I would take the ST (more luggage space) but for day to day running around the old '84 has it.

Despite the fact I traded it for my Valkyrie, I genuinely believe my Standard 1200 was the best all-around bike I've owned. Not too big, not too small, plenty of power, smooth as a, well, Goldwing.
1997 Valkyrie- Light Cutomization, but Too Busy Riding
1980 KZ1300- Bike's Haunted
1976 GL1000 (Yellow)- Behaving Itself Rather Nicely
1974 Velosolex 3800- Better Than Walking
1972 CB750- Learning The Joys of 4 Cable Carbs
1969 CT90- The Most Fun You Can Have on 90ccs.
1965 CA77 Dream- Needs a Full Teardown, but Complete

All advice I give is only valid until an expert corrects me.

The 1200 does have an a lot to like. Must say it was the best of the naked wings all in all.
