Got a little more done, drilled the handlebars to get the controls back on, and then installed the grips, and the turn signals in the ends of the handlebars.

I got the brake master cylinder bled, and got the brakes working, but I think the master cylinder is to small, there isn’t any tension, but it stops the wheel from turning when I pull the lever in. It is from a Blackbird, which I think was a linked system, so a new 5/8” one is on order. A matching clutch MS was also purchased.

Next on the list is to pull the engine to put the 1200 clutch in it, and fix the starter clutch.

Well, engine is out of the frame, and rear cover is off. The starter clutch has been cleaned up, and put back together. Unfortunately, I need to get a different tool to take the clutch nut off. Seems the 1000 uses a 24 mm “socket”, but the 82 1100 and 84 1200 use a 26 mm “socket”. I could have sworn that I had the correct tool, but perhaps I have loaned it out to someone, and haven’t gotten it back.

On another note, it seems the oil drain hole was feeling frisky and left the hole behind….

I think I can get a helicoil that big, (seems to me it would be a spark plug size) but I did price out a time cert kit, and could almost buy another engine for that amount. So if the helicoil idea goes out the window, I’ll be sourcing a new front cover.

Ordered a helicoil to put into this oil drain. Will red loctite it into the cover.

Is not blue locktite te correct sealant?

I was always told to use red on them, but I never knew for sure if that was correct or not, as I always thought red loosened up with heat.

High strength "red" Loctite formulations may require applying heat well in excess of 300 degrees F to loosen its installed bond strength. (red Loctite 271 literature states 500 degrees F :shock: )

Whichever Loctite formulation you choose, always shake the container to thoroughly mix the contents. First.

Yesterday I set about making the tool to take the nut off the clutch, so a 25 mm 12 point socket was used to make it.

Once the nut was off, I was able to install 95% of the 1200 clutch. Waiting on a gasket.

One thing I did different was to use the center of a 1000 clutch to use a modified pin to push it, as I gave away the 1200 pin from my setup to someone on the forum.

Good info in Shop talk for the swap to a 1200 Clutch. Mine worked out well.

Yep, it has been a hot minute since I have been in a 1000 engine, but odd I have one socket here that I thought fit the clutch nut, but it is certainly to small for the 1100 and 1200 clutch.

Got the gauge mounts back from powder coating…look good, and pretty much melts into the background as we had hoped.

The front of the engine has been refreshed, better belt pulley tensioners, new belts, and the oil drain stays in the block with the helicoil.

Nice work, should be a great ride.

Thanks! It will be, but it will be for sale at some point. 12 is getting to be to many to keep at one time.
