The rules are the same as always:
1) Participation in the CURD Polar Bear Ride is open to all registered CURD members and message forum members.
2) Go for a ride of at least 1hr duration on either Dec. 31 2023 or Jan 1 2024 or both. (I usually head for somewhere that is at least a half hour from home, stop for a meal or to visit someone or something like that and then make sure I take more than half an hour to get back home).
3) Take one or more pics &/or a video and post them in this thread.
4) Click the following link to Piper's Patches where you can order Polar Bear Run patches and year rockers (it looks like he has discontinued the pins)
https://www.ebay.ca/str/pipersenterprises
I am not impressed by the amount Piper's Patches charges for postage since he moved entirely to selling on eBay so last year I bought 2022 & 2023 year rockers from this place. They are different colours and a different shape from the ones from Pipers but for about 1/3 the cost I can live with that (there's a pic in last year's PBR thread)

Re: 2024 Polar Bear Ride
I'll think of you while I'm out. Our forecast says it will only be a couple of days below freezing those days so it should be a nice ride.

Re: 2024 Polar Bear Ride
Since New Year's Eve is Sunday this year's PBR was driving Kay to church & back again (same as last year). It was just below freezing on the way and just above but damp enough that a fine drizzle was falling on the way home, which made it feel colder. No still pic again but I did take video; I'm not sure how much of the return trip will be usable though because I think the lens had a thin layer of ice most of the way.

There is no greater feeling than riding along on a motorcycle and seeing the ice on the windscreen start to melt and flow off the sides. YEA BABY --- 32°!!!
A Happy New Year to all.

Re: 2024 Polar Bear Ride
I couldn't see through the windshield most of the way home and it didn't melt until Eccles was inside the garage. But the windshield's primary job is to keep stuff like that off of your face or helmet shield (conditions were perfect for that yesterday) and you should always look over the top of it anyway.
I learned long ago not to count on conditions and to carry safety glasses in my winter jacket so I could put them on and open the shield just enough to block most of the rain or snow that gets past the windshield; The result is looking through a slit between top of windshield and bottom of helmet shield but that's a lot better than being blind (or wiping the helmet shield every time it is covered).
This year I have started wearing prescription glasses for distance again and I'm not often out in bad conditions anymore so they will have to do for that.

Re: 2024 Polar Bear Ride
I missed out on the PBR this year. Weather on the 31st was not something I wanted to brave and today we had plans to visit with some elder family members. Maybe next year.
