Clutch?
Hey all,
Seem to be having trouble with what might be my clutch. I am having issues switching back into neutral when ready to park the bike or having to come to a stop. I have bled. The clutch changed the clutch itself and I’m now wondering if there is something else going on, I have been working on making this a naked mod, but haven’t changed anything engine wise. Is there something electrical with the transmission? I have noticed on the wiring diagram that there is a gearshift sensor and clutch switch. Could one of those be causing this issue?
Any help or recommendations is greatly appreciated. If this thread already exists please point me in the right direction and I apologize for starting a new one.

Re: Clutch?
I need to amend my question when I say I have blood and replaced the clutch I am referring to the Master cylinder.
Another noticeable issue related to this is that when I have the handle lever pulled all the way in the bike will still engaged the transmission and try to pull forward. I have adjusted the cable, but that didn’t seem to help.
Sorry, I am quite the novice and not really firm on all the terms and definitions

Re: Clutch?
The engine has to be off, or running and rolling to find neutral on many old goldwings. If running an stopped, forget trying. A bit of motion with the clutch pulled in with the wheel off the ground is normal on mine. but it does not move with me on it. So if it moves with you on it and the clutch pulled in, then it is not full disengaging and that may be your issue with neutral.

Re: Clutch?
Not sure from your posts if you have a GL with a cable actuated or hydraulic actuated clutch?
I had the same issue with not being able to select neutral when the bike is stationary and the engine is running. Since I have a GL1000 with a cable operated clutch this issue has been elimintaed by adjusting the cable until there is almost no play at the clutch lever when the engine is cold. When the engine is hot there is a little more play at the lever and neutral is still selectable. But if the cable is adjusted with the specified free play when the engine is cold, neutral cannot be selected when the engine is hot.
This situation was exactly the same before and after replacing the clutch with a new one.
I am not familiar with GL hydraulically actuated clutches but if there is a push rod type adjuster you may be able to resolve the issue?

Re: Clutch?
IIRC, There are three places to adjust the clutch. Not just at the clutch lever. The Honda Service Manual (HSM) has the correct procedure. You may be able to find the adjustment procedure by looking at the similar topics at the bottom of this thread. Shoptalk may have it as well.

Re: Clutch?
It helps others to include the year and model in your signature. From your other posts I see you are working on a 1200. To my knowledge there is no adjustment available since it is hydraulic. There may be worn parts or even air in the system. Another thing is to be sure you are using a proper type and level of engine oil.

Re: Clutch?
If it’s a1200, you’ll have to check the slavecylinder as well.
Do you have a manual?

Re: Clutch?
On a 1200, look to see if the pivot pin on the handlebar lever is worn out. A common problem. Part used to still be available, but it's not a complex piece.

Re: Clutch?
Thank you all for the replies.
It is a 1985 GL1200 Interstate with a hydraulic clutch.
I will amend my signature.
Pivot pin seems to be good.
I do have a Clifton guide.
I will try the moving trick. Or the engine off.
I will reply again after trying.
