Looking at another project 86 Aspy (bought)

Already know it is not as nice as the picture. Been sitting outside for at least 6 months. Hope to get a good look tomorrow and decide if it is worth the asking price. Doesn't appear to be missing much. Not a big fan of the Aspy models, would rather have the interstate. Considering downsizing from the 1800 due to several factors. Time will tell.

You know 1200's well, so you know what to check that does not show at the surface. Hope it works out as you do need a new project.

Well she's mine. Borrowed a battery from the other 1200 and rode her home. Gotta figure out all the bells and whistles and do some serious cleaning. Came with several extras I didn't expect. 2 seats, a armored riding jacket, backrest, tool bag, manual and will probably find more as I open all the compartments. All the lights work and locks all seem to work. A little seepage on the forks and the front brake switch not working. That's all I know so far and for $200 less than listed price.

And a good color too! Matches the 86 I currently have torn down. Your body parts all look in much better condition than mine.

Looks like a nice find! About the only 'Aspy extra' I actually use on mine is the air compressor to adjust the suspension.

The color and general condition is what sold me. I haven't tried the onboard compressor yet. The micro switch for the brake lever appears to be bad. One of the mirrors has a cracked case but I think I have a spare. Spent a couple hours removing some of the crud from sitting. I'll be looking for a way to play some music through the radio. A little surprised to find michelin tires in fair shape. Still need to check the date codes. Think I'll start a to do list.

Not much time for work today after wife decided I had to take her to run errands. I did get the brake light switched as the old one was completely shot. Swapped out the mirrors since the left side was broken and the pair I had did not match. Date code on the tires say 7+ years old, dang. Found a broken tab on a lower fairing piece and hoping my epoxy repair will hold. still lots to do.

I thought the rule on tire is 5 year after you got the bike?

Not overly concerned about the tires at this time. Too many other things keeping me busy. Did some stitching on the passenger backrest that busted a seam. Not bad but now my fingers hurt from pushing a needle. Cleaned bunches of surface rust on the chrome parts, some is just too deep and touched up with aluminum paint. Found out the onboard compressor works. Need to work on a exhaust leak on the right side, makes it sound bad. Trim piece that frames the radiator is missing and the grill needs to be cleaned and painted. Guess I should order some belts for when I get that far.

Belts are on order as well as a fresh pair of horns. Added strings to the saddlebag lids. Worked on the exhaust leak for a while today, what a pita. Leak is at the junction of the header and the muffler. Every bolt is rusted. Had to quit before I could test my results. Fresh battery installed.

Belts are here and I've started removing stuff to get to the pulleys. Trying to get the covers off without pulling the radiator is giving me a hard time. Three of the four cover bolts came out but the fourth is being stubborn. Cleaning more crud along the way. Will also install some fresh, louder horns while I'm in there.
