I THINK I WANT ONE TOO!

for those of you that have M.B.S. (multiple bike syndrome) and have the "silver wing" models.
as our sponsors also have supplies for those bikes and they are popular with the "wing" crowd.

They're easier to work on than the Wings.

Yes they made a turbo in both the 500 and the 650.

I have a CX650E regular carbs for sale Can$1400.

Of all the bikes I ever owned, the Cx500c was my fav. Reliable and easy easy to work on. Not super quick, but plenty of Torque and a nice ride.

These are heavy duty, long lasting, low maintenance bikes. Very solid feel to them, smooth light clutch, sound like a V8 at higher RPMs. Top speed on the 500s (non turbo) is just over 100 mph. They are a bit top heavy but have good ground clearance so you can really lay them over in the corners. They are an excellent bike for everyday use or one up touring. No doubt there will still be a bunch of them running around 20 years from now.

I told him about your bike. We'll see if he comes to his senses and contacts you about it. We didn't get the E models here, and since it is an 83, he can easily import it.

Thanks, apparently the import rules are different in each State.

My 78 CX500 will do about 115mph. And I dont think they are top-heavy at all. As easy to ride as a bicycle. Fantastic cornering and great torque for a light bike. I love my CX...

The Turbos are scary. When the turbo kicks in and youre way low in the curve...thank you, I didnt like it...lol

There also was a GL Standart. Naked and as pretty as can be. Very hard to find though.

The GL did come as a Naked model & Interstate & the frames & swing arms were different for the GL & CX . The GL came mono shock , as the CX came with twin shocks & i think the GL had 2 calipers up front also. I`m sure theres more but i`m going on the 83 650 Interstate i had , wish i kept it & made it a naked model. (oh well live & learn)
IBA # 47424 (yahoo)
76 GL1000 (Naked)
78 GL1000 (dead title , but got a 79 frame for it)
2012 Kawasaki Concours (LD bike)

Ban low performance bikes....NOT high performance riders!

The short answer is that the GL was called SilverWing and was available with an Interstate package.

- The CX500 ('78-79) was Honda's first V-twin (it was called CX500 Shadow in Aus.) It had twin shocks, Capacitor Discharge Ignition, single piston caliper(s) and a 150W stator with special windings to power the CDI. It is sometimes called the "Plastic Maggot" because of the appearance of the plastic headlight nacelle.
- The CX500C (Custom) & CX500D (Deluxe) versions were introduced in '79.
- The GL500 replaced the CX in '81. It had Pro-Link rising rate single shock rear suspension, Transistorised Ignition (similar to GL1100) and 2 piston calipers. Since the TI did not require the special windings, the stator was upgraded to 252W. (Later CX500C models had the TI & upgraded stator)
- The CX500T (turbo) and CX500E (Eurosport) were introduced in '82.
- In '83 all models became 650s.
- '84 was the last year of production.

You can see pics of the various models (& just about any other bke Honda ever made) here http://www.motorera.com/honda/index.htm
