motorcycles on Meridian

#1

Post by hoganJr »

Saturday night I rode down to Meridian Street (the "Main Drag" in Indianapolis, Indiana) with 4 friends. The City barricades a large section of the street and only admits motorcycles. Bikes are lined up side-by-side down the middle of the street and backed in to the curb on both sides. A constant parade of bikes of every description. A lot of decked out, souped-up, or awesome customized HDs. Lots of loud and proud sport bikes. I saw one chopped, neon-enhanced CB750; one CBX; several GL1800s, and one old, lightly polished GL1000 (mine).
This is becoming a tradition on MotoGP weekend in Indy, and people ride in from across the midwest.
Last weekend was also the "GenCon" convention in Indianapolis and alot of costumed role-play-game, SciFi, and cartoon character enthusiasts (please pardon me if I have misrepresented these folks in any way, no offence intended) mixed in with the crowd on the street and in the bars.
The noise, revelrey, and semi-debauchery are out of my resonance frequency, but I had fun hanging out and riding with friends. The best part of my ride was after we left, dropped off the guys whose wives wait up for them, and rode 10 more miles in the cool, moonlit, wee hours of the morning on county roads.

I have not had a "nice" night ride in a long time and am overdue. Sometimes the smallest parts of the day are the best.
