Nice job Sunnbobb.

One comment - I used that same breather filter but it turns brown and ugly after a couple thousand miles and needs to be replaced. The same one is available with the stainless mesh. It stays better looking and is cleanable.

from the factory? as old fogey and i both said, we were not 100% sure when they changed. and when dealing with old engines, i guess it is more then possible that they had been changed to the steel at some point. anyway i do know that the 1000 and the 1100 are the same. i'm sure when old fogey sees this he will track down when they changed

Having just had the pleasure of changing the water pump on my 78, I can say that they too were bakelite.

Well i put a metal one in, even though the bakelite one felt good. I dropped the bakelite one and broke it..:( was probably perfectly good! What a PITA to take that tranny cover off and put back on. The only thing that saved me was the fact I had replaced the screws with allens when the engine was out.

AMEN to the pita of changing out the water pump while in the frame (1100) Just got mine running and discovered oil from the weep hole. Bearings were shot. Wished I had checked it better when doing the build. Waiting now for parts. Lots of O-rings and seals in there! But a good time to replace the fan sensor switch which is also bad.

It is not a Phillips head, that is clearly a Cross screw. It makes you cross if you use a Phillips on a tight Cross screw.
