STROKE !

#1

Post by Mike-C »

Good Evening Gents;
This past Tuesday morning I woke up and noticed that my left eye was a bit wobbly;and out of focus.After a lot of soul searching I decided that I had better get it looked at and took myself to our local hospital. The ER doctor said that it looked like I had a very small stroke, he made a few phone calls and said that I had better hustle down the road to our nearest city Cornwall, Ont and pay a visit to their hospital, much bigger and with all the 'options'. Aside from being upset that I drove there, they checked me over, giving me a CT scan and a whole bunch of other tests. I was admitted and was put on a gurney for the night. I called my son, Barrie and he came over to pick up my wife and keep her (and me) company, for the evening. The next morning I was sent over to the Ophthalmologist to check my eyes and they were good. The CT scan determined that my carotid arteries are constricted and surgery will be required. So, to keep this short, the next step is they will schedule an endarterectomy at the heart hospital in Ottawa next week. But the big upset here is that I am grounded , no driving, until this is all sorted out. With my wife's dementia, she cannot drive either, and we are depending on our sons and neighbours for transport;

Good luck with it. It's too bad you can't run an old speedo cable through them to clean them out.
I had my circumflex reamed and sleeved in 2012 at the University of Michigan and got to watch the whole thing live and on a big screen TV. That was kind of cool.
The wife had a triple bypass and she lords it over me now saying that I just had my plumbing repaired while hers has been customized.

No Fun!! At least you did the right thing by going in. Many of us would not have been so intelligent. Any idea when they will schedule the surgery? My Neighbor when I was growing up in Lancaster (N.Y) had that surgery. I was only a Teen but I remember being worried about him as he was one of my Hunting partners.

Prayers for you and your docs. My advice: buy a 1200 and start planning your next build.

Good Evening Folks
An update on my situation. Last week I was scheduled for an endarterectomy and after reporting a relapse on Tuesday we went back to the Cornwall Hospital and was immediately admitted. After a quick and hasty consultation with the doctors I was put in an  ambulance and transported at high speed to the big heart institute in Ottawa, with Barrie and my wife following in his Tacoma (at a more legal pace).  It was determined that the endarterectomy was to be performed ASAP and Thursday noon I went under the knife for the job on my right side carotid artery. The doctor installed a stent and cleaned out the accumulated effects of years of wrongful eating and patched the artery with a bovine patch so I guess I have cow parts in me now. By 5PM I was back in my room and unwinding after the long and very scary ordeal. Friday morning I was discharged and by early evening I was home. I have a 4 inch long incision on the RH side of my neck and aside from those particular pains and after effects I feel much better. The left side artery remains under watch for the moment and I have a follow up meeting this week with the Cornwall staff to discuss that.
