This is why loose/stripped float bowl screws affect idle quality

That clearly helped but....could I also have probed the needle seat with a thin wire like a high E guitar string? I admit that I tried but very gently. The seat felt rubbery upon probing. Here is the needle along with the wire. Screen Shot 2024-07-03 at 9.40.05 AM.jpeg

leonardhcross wrote: Wed Jul 03, 2024 2:46 pm Thank you. I'm glad that I had enough sense not to push that wire. I did read in the forum that you can sometimes clear a plugged air mixture opening using the red plastic tube on carb cleaner. With the rubber gasket at the bottom, where does the carb cleaner actually go? In my case, after spraying the carb cleaner into the opening, I noticed that there seemed to be air pressure causing the cleaner to bubble back at me for a bit. You have been very attentive and patient with me and I appreciate it greatly.
** with the float bowl and bowl gasket securely installed onto the carburetor body, the highly pressurized aerosol spray will then squirt out the air/fuel pilot mixture " Idle Discharge Port Jet " in the carburetor throat.

Thanks Cliff. Great photos! For clarification.....if I were to spray carb cleaner into the brass needle seat circled in yellow, would the spray come out the idle mixture screw hole or the idle mixture discharge nozzle or both? I am having trouble seeing how that brass seat communicates with the discharge nozzle in the throat of the carb. Is there another passageway between the base of the idle mixture screw and the nozzle? And, is it that passageway that gets plugged?

the " Idle Discharge Port Jet " is simply one part

the " Idle Discharge Port Jet " is simply one part, that's pressed into the carburetor body... see Randakk's ' Details' information in this link:
https://www.randakks.com/gl1000-idle-di ... t-jet.html

NOTE: It's not necessary to remove the ' Idle Discharge Port Jet ' from the carburetor body to purge contamination from its closed end brass tube and the single outlet, carb throat discharge orifice ;)

I utilize the dull end of a very small diameter drill bit to plunge into whatever accumulation of gasoline sludge may reside at the closed end bottom of the brass tube. Spray, plunge, spray, plunge... you'll get the hang of it ;)

;) see left end of the carb body's yellow encircled depression in my Post#16. note: your probe wire was jabbing into the rubber fuel bowl gasket, within the same compression defined depression that the volume adjustable, screw-metered air/fuel pilot mixture travels through.

And, is it that passageway that gets plugged? Worst Case Scenario... that passageway is blocked with a broken off air/fuel pilot mixture screw tip :(
