Retired Bike

#1

Post by ritalz »

After much thought, my riding partner has finally retired his 2002 GL1800. This bike has been all over the country and some places many times. The ending milage is over 445k.

This is by no means a record but still impressive. You can check out some of his videos on YouTube by searching for Kenton Kloos.

What stupefies me about these mileages is that each mile is at least an hour in the saddle. Makes my hips hurt just to think about that.

I think the bike goes a little faster than 1 mile per hour ;)

Yes, that would be a whole lot of hours in the saddle. He has traveled to 49 states and 10 Canadian provinces.

445693 - mileage
24889 - circumference of Earth

445693 divided by 24889 = 17.907

Pretty much 18 trips around the world.
Impressive endurance.

Certainly impressive saddle time, not enough years to catch up.

Another guy we know retired his 2015 GW last year with 657k. His new bike already has over 100k. This guy rides hundreds of miles every day unless he absolutely cannot on any given day. He is well known as Super Phil.

Urk. A mile's a minute at 60 mph. Still a lot, whether it was at 30, 60, or 75 mph.
