dang Jeeps

Post by Whiskerfish »

Been busy with Wifey's Jeep but I think that is caught up for now. Had a recall for a new clutch and the shop took care of that. Jeep is replacing something like 78,000 clutches!!! I guess they went too cheap and they like to explode. So that is done.

Then I took it to a shop to have the Death Wobble looked at and no surprise there they could not find anything wrong. So I ordered a Heavy duty (Solid Steel Bar instead of a tube) track bar and put that in this afternoon. Right now no more death wobble! We have owned 5 Wranglers now and 3 have had the death wobble. Short and long tie rods will be next if it comes back.

Maybe now I can play with bikes again!!

I thought the death wobble was just a Jeep thing. Without it, you then have left the Jeep group.

Yea now that it is "fixed" they will throw me out of the club. The problem with these things is that It always comes back!! Give it a few thousand miles and some slop in one of the other control systems will allow it to happen again. But fingers crossed that will be a year or two down the road.

I bought a 2014 Rubicon brand new (ordered it). Has 78,000 miles on it. No death wobble, what am I doing wrong? The only major problem has been the oil filter adapter, thank goodness I bought the lifetime warranty or that would have cost about $1500.

I don't make Wrangler money, but I have an '08 Liberty that I'm torn halfway between saving or replacing. On the one hand, it's got 148,000 miles, some underbody and rocker panel rust that's bad enough to need patching, and it's an '08.

On the other, NOBODY makes a small 4wd SUV that can tow 5000 lbs. anymore, all my issues are minor or cosmetic, and I got a stickshift in the last year Jeep offered it on that model. And if I did get a new car, I'll be honest- I'm looking at another Liberty.

1972 CB750- Learning The Joys of 4 Cable Carbs
1969 CT90- The Most Fun You Can Have on 90ccs.
1965 CA77 Dream- Needs a Full Teardown, but Complete

All advice I give is only valid until an expert corrects me.

I was gone this week and "she" tells me it tried to wobble but really dampened and then stopped. I think the new track bar is working but there is still a underlying issue. I will add it to my list of chores
