Re: Team #898 - Saved from the Ashes
Didn't have much to do as the flu bug has not left the building. I decided to watch the basketball games in the basement while "working" on the bike. I figured that I have a lot of spare carb jets and was not sure what they were, so I figured them out one at a time. I used my handy dandy carb jet drill tool donated by Al (Dogboy) and it worked great. I did not have all the jet sizes, but could figure out what they were with the sizes supplied. As I am writing this I am thinking, OMG I need to get a life! Anyway, thanks to OhioBill we have a complete set of 75 jets. It should all work out once I get that idle tube figured out.

I then took some time to clean up the panels for the first time. They will look fine once I'm finished with them. A little touch up and some polish and we will be in business.

Re: Team #898 - Saved from the Ashes
Finished up the panels. Two applications of rubbing compound, one of polishing compound and one of wax. Then some touch up on the striping and replace the pin.

Re: Team #898 - Saved from the Ashes
Hey,now!!! Ernie isn't the only one busy here! Brought the lump in the house finally and started to paint and detail the engine. I can only do a section at a time due to the fumes down here

Started putting the belts on and one of the tensioners was no good,So Greg was kind enough to send me a couple in the mail. I did notice when turning the motor over,a bit of rust in #1 cylinder...not bad, just a light coating.

I then painted the front cover and sourced the correct oil filter cover and bolt. Of course, the spring and shim was missing,so stop and dig through my spares for them

I will be replacing the front cover with new JIS phillips standard screws,as well as all the other JIS fasteners on the motor.

Re: Team #898 - Saved from the Ashes
Now that the belts are on and the motor timed,I oiled the cylinders and valve guides, hooked my jumper box to the starter, and proceeded to run a compression test,as well as pre oil the motor. The good news is the starter works good
Ran a bench top compression test to see where we stand...#1-75,#2-145,#3-155,#4-160. I ran more oil in #1 cyl,and the compression bumped up to 110. Sprayed some Kroil down the cyl and let it set o-nite,reoiled the cyl,and got her up to 150 today
. I think a few drive cycles when she is together, and we should be good. Today will be some more painting and detailing on the motor.

Coolant tubes and t-stat housing mocked up waiting for parts order to come in...maybe Tues. Hey Ernie...I found another emblem for the valve cover!!
