Re: CAFE MAXIMUS
Hi there,
Beautiful bike, fabulous build and an inspiration by a mile. Can I just say though that your bird logo looks like he has a sort of double face where the tongue oversizes the actual eye and the red of the mouth becomes the eyeball and the tongue ends up looking like a beak. I'm just thinking that from a distance it might not be the look you are aiming for.
Cheers
Dean

I hear ya re the logo, but the pic on my post is very low res, the actual graphic has a much better defined eye so it looks the way it should in reality.

Re: CAFE MAXIMUS
Norbert R, I just spent the evening reading your entire thread! You started with little knowledge and ended up delving farther into the Goldwing engine than most people here. Now you can be very proud of a job well done!! The bike looks great!

Thank you Pat! Jeez, you deserve a medal for reading through the longest thread in history
I finally got the gold flake, it got lost in transit and the vendor had to send a replacement. I need to make some time to get the tins & paint to the painter now to do the base coat & clear coat for me. Hope to have pics of Maximus in a new suit soon...

I'm a lot older and wiser too, thanks to all the schooling I received from NGWC
I really was quite ignorant when I first tackled this project, oblivious to all the pitfalls and obstacles, time and expense I had ahead of me, but since I have been riding the bike from last November, all that is forgotten.
What does stay with me is all the support and friendship, having my stripped down motor on last years calendar cover, and BOTM to boot - the Forum became more important in a lot of ways than the actual bike, and I think it is that way for a lot of us here...

Re: CAFE MAXIMUS
Norbert, you've also done your bit to sow your seeds of wisdom here
This forum is quite remarkable for the generous way accurate and relevant information is so readily shared. The lack of infighting is also unique. I think it has to do with the general maturity of the typical Goldwing owner ,they all tend to be gentlemen (myself excluded of course
), without the constant need to prove themselves.

Re: CAFE MAXIMUS
I read somewhere, "Never fight an old guy. If you're too much trouble, he'll just kill you"... not that the temptation has come up on this forum (well, once, a newbe came on the forum using texting shorthand and demanding answers without any "please and thankyou"... I responded with "real sentences please" and he never came back... see - it's true- dead, dead).
Appreciate good people: they are hard to come by.

Re: CAFE MAXIMUS
Greetings NGWC, some progress - the final step in Café Maximus' transformation is complete, shelter is finally painted !!
Had a look back at my first page, this is what I started with: And here was my photoshopped idea of what I wanted to build: LastMohawk wrote "I like this "photoshop" bike... it will be interessting to see your ideas will come true."
Well Harald, hope you approve

Re: CAFE MAXIMUS
Some more pics ( sorry about the crappy quality, just cell phone pics, and I seem to loose a lot of resolution on my pics when I upload)
The pics don't do the paint job any justice, you gotta see it in the full sun, I couldn't be happier.
After doing the prep and filler primer, I had a professional do the paint for me - base coat black, gold flake, then the orange was painted on, then the whole lot cleat coated. It is like glass and you need sunglasses to look at it when the sun shines on the paint

Re: CAFE MAXIMUS
you are exactly right Cyborg. When I had the 350 in my IROC rebuilt, after the 500 km break in period I changed the break in oil for mobil 1 syn. I put close to 1000 km's on the engine and the rings didn't seat. The car smoked like crazy.CYBORG wrote:the reason is its to slippery and the rings won't seat, or so i've heardaussiewingman wrote:this might be debatable but i have read somewhere that it's important not to use synthetic oil during the run in process for the first 1000 kilometres not to travel over 100 kpm and not on open road...
I changed to dino oil and problem solved.
ETA..I am sitting here at work and just finished reading this entire thread ( very long coffee break
Your documentation of your build is extremely well done Norbert and your bike is off the chain as we say over here.
I am at where you were when you started. I'm brand new to biking and know nothing about working on a bike.
Reading about your build gives me hope that I will be able to accomplish what I want to do with my wing.
Fantastic job sir.
