hello everyone
i am new to the site
my name is Kevin
i have a question
i recently bought a 1975 gl1000
the previous owner put straight pipes on
and did not re-jet
will this hurt the bike if i ride it like it is

I would say that things are not good, but what you need to do is a plug check. What you do is run the engine at speeds for a chunk of time, then pull the clutch and the engine kill switch at the same time. Do not let the engine run, just drift to a stop. When you are stopped pull every plug and look at the color, the target you are shooting for is coffee with lots of creamer in it. If you see more of a white ash type of thing youre jets are to lean and you need larger ones. If they are a wet black looking color then you have jets that are running to rich.

Welcome statsman11 , Hope you find what you're lookin for here , I have , and I Thank quakeholio for that little trick that I didn't known . One thing about this site I'm thankful for being here is that I have learned alot here , so in that I think you'll enjoy it here , just pull up a chair .

When it comes to performance tuning it's something that comes up all the time. At thegsresources they talk about it, as many of the GS family are born to be drab bikes, and some over on my home, cb900c.net.

I'm not to supprised that performance modification issues are not found here very often, the wing was not built or seen in those regards. Kinda a shame, be GL1000 bike with turbo, wiseco, and a few other goodies.
