Time for a rebuild

#1

Post by TINBASHER »

I am the proud owner of an '83 'Wing. I took her off the road last summer for what I thought would be a minor facelift. Once I started pulling her apart I decided that it was time for a radical restructuring. I discovered someone else's idea of an (ahem) "repair" on the fairing. It was spider-web cracking in just about every direction. Luckily, thanks to Uncle Sam, I'm well-versed in sheet metal and fiberglass, and am anticipating having a totally unique and custom bike on the road this spring. Considering that this old girl has stood by me through two bouts of cancer(better mileage than I've gotten out of any woman so far), it's the least I can do for her.

Not much in it for me. Been married for 27 years and I brought the boys GL1100 26 years ago.
I will have to wait and see which one gives up first :)

Well, in the last 33+yrs.......one wife, probably about 25 +/- motorcycles.......it's a lot cheaper than the other way around!!!!
A good bike mechanic only needs two tools, WD40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move, but should, use the WD40. If it does move but shouldn't use the duct tape.

Just had another thought about the wife. She is the longest lasting kitchen appliance I have ever had :)

OK, so maybe the mileage remark rattled some cages, all I'm saying is that I had a girlfriend dump me when she found out I had cancer, and most women I've run across have balked at the prospect of dating me because of it. My 'Wing loves me unconditionally.

I've been laid off a few days and have been in the garage toiling away. The old girl definitely won't be mistaken for any other 'Wing on the road. I've almost finished reshaping the fairing. I just fabricated new vent covers yesterday. Don't know if I'll move onto rebuilding the bags or the trunk next, both require some jamor work. I'm looking at molding in some speakers on the trunk too to make it a four speaker system.
