CX500 kicking my #$%& water pump leaking

for those of you that have M.B.S. (multiple bike syndrome) and have the "silver wing" models.
as our sponsors also have supplies for those bikes and they are popular with the "wing" crowd.

A couple things to check.

Radiator cap, have it pressure tested. Most auto parts stores should be able to test it for you for free.

Copper washer at water pump impeller. Should be replaced or annealed before reinstalling. Sometimes a leak there can be stopped with a bit of Bars Leaks or equivalent.

I've seen new ceramic water pump seals leak for a while before sealing, but usually just a slight leak.

so if the cap is bad will make the pump leak?

If the pressure cap is not releasing it can push coolant out the seal.

Yes, pressure test the cap and replace the copper washer. Do not put silicon on the washer. Make sure there are no burrs on the acorn nut or surface of the impeller where the copper washer seats. Be sure not to over tighten the acorn nut.

You may want to check with RoadKill and see if there are any feminine hygiene products that are small enough to stop the leak.

Or you could just fix the damn thing.

But if you decide to shot it, we want video!!!
Peace,

I didn't get around to it last night I got side tracked when I went to put gas in my bad ass XS1100 special and a guy at the station asked if I knew anyone that might want to buy a XS1100 standard? :-D and of course I had to go look at it, well long story short I just added to my family one 80 XS1100 standard so I never got around to it. I talked to a cronny of mine and he has had the same problem with those fricking CX500s and has come up with a permanent fix that is the best idea I have ever heard :) no its not blowing it up..stay tuned for pics later tonight.till then 8)
