Martian...Dang I miss Rosie...
Picked up this 83 Aspencade
I know they awesome bikes but not into all the bling, and man its heavy
SO started tearing down right away
bin parked for several years, not put away proper, no start, rotten gas, seized brakes
Just a little project for the winter
An what feels like 200 lbs lighter

Re: Mars Rover - lighting
Had this need to be cheap and creative, mocked up this headlight, has the bucket out of the fairing, the adjustment knob on the back for authenticity. And its black enamel and aluminum so it wont rust...lol
Starts with T and ends with FAL
I did take the handle off though, it was tacky, but without the handle it ruins my plans to use salt and pepper shackers for turn signals

Re: Mars Rover
Did a wack of clean up on the bike today. Pulled valve covers. Good and clean. Painted with wrinkle paint. Pulled belt covers. Timing belts look good. Painted with wrinkle threw in a touch of red on the little carb guards. Finished making my new headlight out of a tfal 7 inch black enamel pot....lol
Cleaned up some wiring
Simply amazes me the on a 35 year old bike I have not broken a single bolt, everything comes apart as it should...So far
Thank god its beer time. Days off are too much work....lol

Re: Mars Rover
Hey Martian, a visual inspection of timing belts condition isn't good enough. If you don't know the age and mileage on them you had better replace them.Just trying to save you some grief.Bikes looking good.

Re: Mars Rover
Yeah, many belts looked perfect just before they broke. And on an interference engine that can be very bad. Gates belts are pretty cheap.hatchward wrote:Hey Martian, a visual inspection of timing belts condition isn't good enough. Re: Mars Rover
Its all mock up and cleaning, wont be riding until spring.
Don't even have my beginners licence yet, never mind full
thanks for heads up.
I figure once I get her the way I want her to look, will tear down and oils, brakes, belts and all the good stuff, hopefully it will be rideable by spring
