Post by QUEEENlE »

Ok... there is no manual ..how you lose that I dont know... from the reading that i ve done here and emails... Honda would be the best yet expensive and Clymers or Haynes woud be good. Opinions? Im going with what you suggest. I have no tools either. Well I have some just not for my ride. Can you suggest what I need to carry with me. Please be specific ..1. use 2. size ( that is important ) 3. Where/how to carry them. New at this ... ownership thingie. Should I carry any spare part(s) I was thinking like....spark plug..? Any or all help is appreciated. Thanks guys. Hey if you are all brothers....does this mean I can be your sister? <wink>

This is only some tools you need to do maintenance:
Open end spanner or wrench: 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm,
19mm, and a 23mm for the rear wheel. Combination Screwdriver,
spark plug wrench, spark plug gap adjusting tool, tongs, snap-ring
pliers, allen key sets, feeler gauge set, hand impact screwdriver
and bits, torque wrench and a control cable pressure luber.
If you're not an advanced mechanic, get Clymer or Haynes.
I'll think you might find a tool list in the manual.

I hope this little bit of information helps you sister QUEEENIE. tumb2

Oh thankyou so much, you didn't have to go to so much trouble ..but I am glad that you did. Taking the picture and all. Leastwise now I'll know what they look like. <grin> So very helpful, such wonder peoples at this site. Everyone is so helpful. And boy do I need it sometimes. Thanks for the opinion on the manual too.

I know this is probably a dumb question  , but did you look in the glove compartment? They should be in a canvas bag.

 hey QUEEENIE, you're gonna want to carry some spare fuses, and a tire/tube repair kit as well as the basic tools that brother Try listed...

:!: (Nothing worse than having problems, only to find out all you needed was a fuse to get back going. :x ) :!:

Thanks for the help... lists of tools and parts to carry...As always you guys are the best. What if you can't get a cell signal where you break down? hmmmm... don't have someone to call with a trailer? I'm not leaving him sit along the roadside.

I carry the basic tool kit and add in some fuses, Small roll of duck tape, Ten foot of nylon rope, and two foot of fuel line with two clamps,a couple of spark plugs, a two foot piece of 10 guage wire with aligator clips on both ends. I also carry a Schrade 50 thousand in one tool on my side that has saved my hide more than once. Now I have found that most riders carry none of what I carry and they ussually have the other stuff I don't with them when I break down. Now if I'm going on a long long trip to planet X or something I will pack up the garage minus the refridgerator

X as in Extreme Riding. I sometimes get the Urg to ride very long distances and I like to pack for the worst. Have done alot of my riding on a Yamaha Roadstar but when I get this 1100 serviced, I'm off to Planet X.

Now this would be interesting , everyone take a pic of ONLY the tools that they carry and post , I will this week . I just carry some basics that are in a tool bag on the front forks , the rest as someone here said , for any bigger repairs those tools are in the garage . and when I go on long distance trips I pull my trailer behind the bike , I'm a tool fanatik , I do almost carry everything and more on the trailer 'cept the fridge .

I carry the basic goldwing tool kit plus a couple of extra spanners,i also carry a small 12Volt trouble light. I just installed a car cigarette lighter socket in glove box compartment to plug it into. After all, for those night ride "NOT VERY OFTEN" breakdowns it's easier to fix something you can see, than stumble around in the dark. Try adjusting points on a windy night using cigarette lighter "NEAR IMPOSSIBLE" i know from personal experience.

Cheers Alan.
