new toy

Sat in the new truck for about 3 hours today with the owners manual and my old man glasses on. I pushed buttons and watched different warning lights and symbols show up on the dash. Wish I knew what all those symbols were!!! Crazy complicated these things are nowadays.

I like it a lot so far just wish I could figure out how to shut off some of the ^%#$!@^&*# safety features. Lane assist or whatever it is called is as aggravating as a horsefly buzzing around your head. First couple times it activated I did not know what was going on and I thought I had a flat or something causing it to pull to one side. And the adaptive cruise control is another one that needs eliminated. Seems like even when the cruise is not on and I change lanes too quick and it tries to slow me down. Even with the distance thing at a minimum it gets real sensitive about closure rate.

I have done the 3 phase thermal cycling and am basically calling the engine break in complete. Some folks on the Taco forum are all spun up about the proper differential break in. Never knew that was a component that required a break in!!

Brother Greg had a similar experience when he drove my truck back from the rally. Had to explain it is basically a video game similar to the board game "Operation". You will soon know how to switch between adaptive and regular cruise. I do not like adaptive either. Distance is most likely adjustable and I set it to minimum to avoid heavy hand interference.

I got the lane thing turned off. I may have the adaptive cruise off but will need to check it tomorrow.

Yea the lane thing is gone much to my relief. Still fussing with the adaptive Cruise control. I know it has different sensitivity settings but it is still aggravating.

Does okay running straight up. I did hit the go pedal pretty hard once today. I was surprised by both the turbo lag and the acceleration once it kicked in. I am sure as it is broken in more I will get a lot more experience with that. It is nothing like that 395HP Hemi.

Headlights and music mean a lot to me in a vehicle. The Headlights seem fantastic. But so far the Sound system is really disappointing. Has a great big 12 inch looking JBL subwoofer behind the back seat so I was expecting more. Need to fuss with the controls to make sure I don't have something set wrong. Most of what I have been listening to is Bluetooth from my phone so that may be the issue. Once you find them the Mixer and fade/balance controls are basic enough for a toddler to use. One thing I have fallen in love with very quickly is the removable Bluetooth speaker. It is the center speaker mounted in the dash and you push a button and it pops out and you can carry it with you. Sounds pretty good and seems to last a good bit. I had it on the tail gate playing for several hours the other day. You pop it back in the dash and it charges as you drive. Nifty little deal.

Wishing you the very best of luck with your new vehicle. I like the blue colour. Over here that model is called a Hilux. They have a reputation for being bulletproof. I presume yours is a gas powered model? Over here they are almost all diesel powered. The existence of a turbocharger means that low down torque is non existent, you have to crank it up to get moving.

The hilux and the tacoma look similar but there are some pretty important differences. The hilux is more commercial grade and has some heavier duty design factors. They do not sell them here. Many wish they did. Here it is hard to find a truck that is just a truck. They fill them with so much comfort and convenience stuff that they are priced out of range for a lot of working folks.

Yes this is gas powered 2.4 liter turbo engine.

Had to wait for the frost to melt this morning but I got the new tonneau cover installed. Had to go with an economy grade but am actually pretty happy with it. Hope it holds up over time

That's a pretty good color match for the tonneau cover.
