Re: filter adapters
Due to the increased vibration, construction flaws can fail more easily on a motorcycle than on the relatively smoother, and lower engine speed of an automotive application. I never skimp on filters myself, but some do. The basic Fram filter (not the premium ones) use cardboard end caps and low end buna anti-drain back valves. This can cause the media to distort in operation and the anti-drain back valves to harden and work poorly or not at all. A lot of store brand filters are constructed in a similar fashion. I know this from discussions with factory reps. I personally use Purolator PureOne filters whenever I can. Concerning proof, I'm not going to spend an hour researching white papers to support a forum post. This info is given in good faith - take it however you like.

Thanks CYBORG for the plug.
I cannot disagree with the fact that some folks use less than adequate oil filters on their cars, trucks and motorcycles. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I agree. "some people" But it's a good product, and deserves a little "atta boy". I may need another one this winter. Hope you still have a couple.heraldhamster wrote: ↑Sat Jul 17, 2021 1:22 pmThanks CYBORG for the plug.

Re: filter adapters
This page is about spin on filters made for bikes and not the car filters that the adapters allow you to use but it does give a pretty good comparison of various brands of filter
http://www.tobycreek.org/oil_filters/index.shtml
BTW, the fellow on cxforum who sells adapters for those bikes has tried to talk me into buying one a few times but on a bike that spends time on dirt/gravel roads and has road salt & sand sprayed at the front of the engine all winter I'd rather keep the original armoured filter.

Re: filter adapters
I have two bikes with these adapters, and I love them. They are road bikes, so no off road involved. I have used them for years, and love the convenience they offer. I need one for the new bike I'm building.

Re: filter adapters
I don't go off road either. But I will go off pavement more on 3 wheels than I did on 2 and the salt & sand is mostly on the paved roads.

Re: filter adapters
I guess I'll take my changes.....for the convience of changing the oil. I change mine every 1000 miles, (I know), so the convience is an important time saver for me. And with over half a million miles on my 78, I must be using the right filters
