Had the first outpatient Therapist session Yesterday. She went over everything and examined where I am. Told me I am a bit behind the curve but manageable. I have asked several healthcare folks how hard I should be pushing into the pain. She finally gave me a solid answer I could accept. She told me that if I start crying or throwing up while I am doing my exercises that I am pushing too hard, otherwise go as hard as I can!!! She advised me to embrace the pain and use the Narcotics to manage the worst of it.

The answer was a bit scary. Sounds like an easy way to get addicted to a narcotic. I would temper the desire to get well with common sense. Only you know what your body is feeling. Take care my friend.

Doing mostly what the physical terrorists tell me. They snuck up and double teamed me yesterday. I was really sore last night.

Went and saw the Ortho again today to talk about my hip. It is a real issue for sleep. They took a bunch of pics and at the end of the visit the conclusion was that it is my back not my hip. I have had 2 spinal surgeries 30 years ago and was diagnosed with Degenerative disc disease 15 years ago so not surprised by that. So now I wait for a appointment with the back guy. The knee/hip guy did not want to start me on oral steroids due to my recent knee surgery. For some reason too many steroids would be bad for my knee recovery?? So I have to wait for the Spine Doc to give me injections. I just need to get through the next few months. As it is right now there is no way I can sit in the truck long enough to make my travel plans.

As for Narcotics abuse that is not a concern. I have had a standing prescription for them for over 10 years for my back. I use them when needed but really dislike what they do to me so abuse is not likely. Also one of my closest friends has had his life destroyed by them so I am very cautious.

The knee is making progress just slow like a snail!!

Progress on the knee is still happening. Quad muscle was cut during the procedure and is still the most painful. We had a solid PT session and worked that really hard today. Then this afternoon I walked just a hair over 2 miles. I still am a long way from being able to lift the leg over a bike. That movement is one that we work on every session.

Starting to think about all the chores I have been neglecting. I have kept up with the grass cutting but that is basically all. The new steps for Rusty's jeep should be delivered tomorrow. I have to remove the old running boards and install the rock rails then install the mounts for the steps. As high as it is sitting now I hope to be able to manage that. Basically trying to get up off the floor is still a one legged operation.

Got the running boards removed and the new rock rails with the removable steps installed. Made wife very happy. Also walked dogs and got the yard cut, so near to 3 miles of walking for the day. Still limping but manageable.

The knee has not been progressing to my satisfaction. I can walk all day but 2 months in now and I still can not bend past 90 degrees. Countless PT sessions and last week one of the Therapists mentioned "Manipulation Under Anesthesia". Today I had a follow up with the Surgeon and he brought it up without me prompting him. So Monday I go back to the Hospital for that. Then 2 weeks of everyday therapy. Also next week I go in for a needle to hopefully remove some of the pain in my sacroiliac. Running out of time. Need to get healthy enough to sit in the truck for some long days starting in just over 2 weeks. Pushing it down to the wire.

That manipulation is not too unusual, not 100% effective but often gets you that last 20 degrees. Can be a bit sore for a while tho' …
Hope it goes well for you.

right at two months so hoping it is not too late to reclaim the mobility. Told it is a time critical procedure. Actually looking forward to it. Need to see some progress.

Cyborg's almost 80 and Whiskerfish is putting engines on the curb. Is this the apocalypse?

Joking aside, there may be a day...just maybe...when darkness covers the land and all will be filled with fear. When our bikes (along with us NGW Apostles) age out of existence. When eBay says "0 results for GL1100." When Honda Goldwing service techs universally fade into retirement. And when the rumble of our Naked Goldwings become relics of a century past, found only in museum pieces and July 4th parades. Thanks to sites like ours, I'm betting against this day. But if this day comes, despite our valiant efforts to hold it back, like the crashing seas, well...that grim day will be filled with anguish.

But as Aragorn said, today is not that day. No indeed. Today, We Ride.

That day is truly coming, and faster than we think.

When I was a kid, my family farm restored old tractors during the slow times,
now... you can barely give away an old tractor.

Later, we built race cars and hot rods,
today... those are both money losing propositions.

Now, I quit fixing up old bikes to resell,
again... not enough interest to make it worthwhile.

I understand that the "car culture" of our generation is dying off as fast as the baby boomers,
Youth today are not interested in what their ancestors did.
heck, many don't even have enough interest in driving to go get their license.

The day will come when these motorcycles are only seen in museums,
the same as steam locomotives and threshers are today.

Everything changes, time marches on.

Yes everything moves on with time. Are those of us that drag our feet just stubborn or are we living history?? That bike I sold went to a young fella in his 20's. It might be a tiny light but let there be hope...
